WorryPosted on June 1, 2010 by
Summertime really is the best part of the year... School is done, no more tests, no more homework, getting to sleep in late, NBA playoffs, hanging out with friends, staying up late, and eating a TON of sno-cones :D. Yet it seems like no matter what time of year it is, there are always things we spend a good amount of time worrying about. Whether its things we worry about during the schoolyear (tests, studying, grades, weekends, who to sit with at lunch, getting up early, being in class on time, etc.) or things we worry about during the summer (what time to get up, where to hang out, who to invite, where to eat, getting tan, who will win the NBA playoffs, what vacation we are going to take, etc.) we always seem to have things on our mind that concern us.
The word worry always makes me think of the lyrics to a song that Bobby McFerrin wrote (I always thought it was Bob Marley but apparently he didn't write it, he just sang it... who knew?) called "Don't worry, Be happy" which states:
In every life we have some trouble, but when you worry you make it double, don't worry.... be happy!
I know I spend alot of time worrying about things that are either outside my control, or really won't matter in the longterm. This is not productive. In fact, it usually makes the situation worse! We tend to let the little things get the best of us and we get hung up on stuff that won't matter in the future while overlooking the big picture. As you go throughout your summer and something begins to worry/concern you, stop and think to yourself "is this issue something really worth ruining my day over and being in a bad mood? Will this really matter in a week/month/year?" Keep the grand scheme of things in mind and I think you'll find we often waste alot of time worrying about pointless stuff!
"Worry is like a rocking chair - it gives you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere."
"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy."
Trust me... Life is too short to worry, just embrace it and have fun! Carpe Diem! - CB
